Johnny Reno & the Lounge Kings
Take the classic organ/sax/guitar combo sound of the 50’s and 60’s Blue Note records, throw in a little Chet Baker smoothness and some classic Sinatra or Bobby Darin style vocals, and you’ve got the swinging martini jazz sounds of Johnny Reno & the Lounge Kings.
“I’ve been interested in this style since I began playing the sax,” says Johnny, “and with the new interest from the public in lounge-styled jazz, it seemed like now was the time to put together this combo.” “With the sound of the Blue Note organ combos of Jimmy Smith, Groove Holms and Bill Davis having a renaissance,” Johnny explains, “I thought, why not combine a little of the vocal style of Sinatra with the organ combo sound, and blend the styles for something a little different?” Great songs like “Somewhere Beyond the Sea” and “The Lady is a Tramp” alongside instrumentals such as “Harlem Nocturne” and “Blues in the Closet” set the mood for the serious swing and jazz lounge music lover’s perfect evening of the swank and suave.
